Day 1

Welcome to my adventures in sleep deprivation. This is not my idea, I got the impulse to venture down this path from Timothy Ferriss' book “The 4-Hour Body” and he got the idea from others that he features and credits in the book. This is where I will plug the book: Its amazing. Read it, you wont be disappointed. Actually: Go read his other book “The 4-Hour Workweek” too. You'll get more life out of your time because of it.

In this blog I will be recounting my experiences with sleeping in a polyphasic sleep cycle this semester. I will be sleeping at 2 am until 5 am, then napping for 20 minutes at 7:30 am, 1:10 pm, and 6:00 pm. This will equal a total sleep amount of 4 hours, gaining me 4 waking hours a day, a total of 28 hours a week! Every week I will have an gained an extra day + 4 awake hours. Over the 16 week semester, I will have added an extra 448 awake hours. That's like adding 18.66 days to my semester. Thats a lot of extra time to study! Or just take up a relaxing hobby! Or write a blog!

Update
This is harder than it looks. I love the idea, but its hard to reset 24 years of sleep habits. On day 1 I was so shaken by the practice of waking after 3 hours of sleep, that I didnt think twice about hitting the alarm and sleeping until I HAD to get up for school. I slept from 2:30 am till 7:30 am, 5 hours instead of 3. After I came home from school, I was so tired and ached from missing only a few hours of sleep. I took a nap to make up for the perceived deficit from 2:00 pm till 5:30 pm, adding another 3.5 hours to my sleep log for a total of 8.5 hours. 8.5 hours! *face palm I actually slept MORE than 8 hours, not less.
